I had the exact same experience with London students when I studied abroad several years ago at Goldsmiths College. 'America is SO BIG' 'I have no idea where Kentucky is!' I had to use my limited drawing skills to map out the US (or the tri-state region) in order to explain. It was pretty interesting...I think I left out a couple of the Northern states myself!
